The Environmental Design Research Center consolidates faculty expertise to carry out both fundamental research and applied social practice, with a focus on transforming research outcomes into real-world applications. Serving as a vital link, it bridges academic resources within the university with external design industries while cultivating professional talent through practice-based teaching for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Building upon the School’s environmental design discipline, the center adheres to a philosophy of collaborative innovation—planning + architecture + landscape + interior + facilities + signage + public art. It addresses both academic frontiers and practical needs, with research aimed at enhancing living environments through the integration of architecture and urban-rural design. By exploring sustainable, human-centered, and artistic approaches to modern public space design, it creates a tripartite research platform connecting industry, academia, and research.

The center also undertakes horizontal and vertical research projects, implements environmental design programs, and strengthens university–enterprise collaboration, thus advancing both talent development and industry–education integration.
